To help all our team and stakeholders get to know each other, each month we will feature a member of staff. This month we are profiling Colette Goulding, who has been the Big Help Trading Manager since the trading arm was set up in 2015.
What is your role at the Big Help Project and what does it involve?
I have been the Trading Manager at Big Help Trading for 18 months now. The role has changed considerably during that time. In August 2015 we opened our first Big Help Community Shop in Huyton, and we are in the process of opening two more Big Help shops. We are also planning Homestyle shops selling white goods, furniture, paint and accessories. We will also be selling white goods in partnership with KMBC, Fair for You, CO OP Electrical and local credit unions, giving people a credible alternative to others in the ‘rent to own market’, so that they can purchase white goods using ethical credit.
Our PAT testing service continues to grow, and we are also about to launch Community Repaint Liverpool (Knowsley), which will mean we can sell donated paint at a really low cost. The paint will be available in our Homestyle shops and we will also be able to provide good quality, low cost paint to local Housing Associations, churches and community groups.
As you can see it’s a really exciting time for Big Help Trading.
Hobbies and interests -I have recently joined the gym and I really enjoy the Zumba and dance fit classes. I am also very active in my local community.
The Godfather – I love everything about this film, the story, the characters, the music, the religious imagery….
Favourite Song / album-Oooh there are so many to choose from. I think it would have to be Kingston Town, UB40 from the Labour of Love album. Absolute classic.
Favourite book-Animal Farm – a fantastic read for all ages. I read it when I was young and I read it to my children also. It's only when II re-read it in my teens that I realised the political relevance
Favourite holiday destination-I absolutely love Rome. I think there is something there for everyone, whatever your interests are. I went there with my mum so it holds special memories for me. Ice cream at the Trevi Fountain mmmm…
Inspirational figure-Malala Yousafzai – she was 14 when she was shot by Taliban gunmen because she spoke out for the right for girls to be educated. She has now become an advocate for all girls who have been denied an education.
Favourite quotation-‘Life’s too short’
